SUMMARY OF POSITION

Lead social media strategy and execution across the Greater Myrtle Beach Collaborative organization, with primary responsibility for Visit Myrtle Beach's social presence. This position will guide agency partners, creators and internal contributors; oversee day-to-day publishing and community engagement; and develop platform-specific content that strengthens the destination brand, supports organizational priorities and inspires visitation and community participation. The Social Media Manager is both a strategic leader and a hands-on creator who can turn ideas, trends and business needs into timely, effective social content.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITES & FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and lead an integrated social media strategy aligned with destination marketing, brand, communications, advocacy, community and organizational goals.
  • Own the day-to-day direction, quality and performance of Visit Myrtle Beach social channels, including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, X, YouTube and emerging platforms.
  • Lead and coordinate the social media team, including agency account management, community management and social video production resources; establish priorities, provide creative direction and ensure timely, high-quality execution.
  • Maintain an integrated social content calendar and workflow across campaigns, evergreen storytelling, partner features, events, community initiatives and timely opportunities.
  • Conceptualize, create, produce and publish platform-specific content, including short-form video, photography, graphics, copy, Stories and live or real-time coverage.
  • Translate broad strategies, business needs and creative concepts into clear social plans, assignments, briefs and deliverables.
  • Oversee community management, moderation and social listening; establish an appropriate brand voice and response approach, identify emerging issues and elevate opportunities or risks when needed.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Director to coordinate local creators and contractors, including developing assignments, providing briefs and feedback, managing deliverables and identifying new creative talent.
  • Partner closely with creative, communications, marketing, technology, sales and community-focused teams to plan and execute social support for campaigns, programs, announcements and organizational priorities.
  • Contribute to social strategy and execution for Greater Myrtle Beach Collaborative, Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Grand Strand, GSYP, Collaborate2031, Partnership Grand Strand and other organizational brands or initiatives.
  • Collaborate with agency and internal media teams on paid social strategy, audience development, campaign structure, creative testing, boosting and optimization; review performance and recommend improvements.
  • Establish channel goals and key performance indicators; monitor analytics, identify insights and translate results into clear recommendations for content, community and paid social programs.
  • Stay current on platform changes, emerging formats, creator trends, cultural conversations and best practices; evaluate opportunities and lead responsible experimentation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Creative Director or EVP of Marketing & Communications.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, journalism, digital media or a related field is preferred; a minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated experience owning social strategy and execution for a brand, organization, agency or portfolio of clients across multiple platforms.
  • Strong portfolio of social-first work demonstrating hands-on content creation, short-form video, copywriting, creative concepting and platform-specific storytelling.
  • Experience leading internal staff, agency partners, freelancers or creators through clear direction, feedback, deadlines and accountability.
  • Working knowledge of paid social strategy, including audience targeting, campaign objectives, creative testing, boosting, optimization and performance reporting, is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to capture and edit effective social content using mobile devices and common photo, video and design tools; advanced production expertise is a plus.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and editorial skills, with strong command of brand voice, storytelling, grammar, spelling and attention to detail.
  • Strong strategic judgment and the ability to balance long-term planning with real-time opportunities, multiple stakeholders and fast-moving priorities.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, propose solutions and bring abstract ideas from concept through execution.
  • Knowledge of the Myrtle Beach area, its communities and the tourism and hospitality industry is strongly preferred; genuine enthusiasm for the Grand Strand is essential.
  • Must embrace and demonstrate a continuous-improvement mindset, curiosity about emerging technology and a willingness to test, learn and adapt.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and professionalism when moderating public conversations,

responding to sensitive issues and representing the organization online.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT

  • This job operates primarily in a professional office environment but also requires work at partner locations, events and content productions. The role routinely uses standard office, mobile and content-production equipment.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Occasionally required to stand, walk, bend, kneel or move through indoor and outdoor locations while capturing or supervising content.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
