SUMMARY OF POSITION

An enthusiastic, creative and dependable group sales intern to collaborate with the group sales team in each stage of group development for Myrtle Beach. Your work will include developing, growing, and securing additional group business for the Myrtle Beach area.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Development of locally-made, sustainable, culinary and historical point of interest content for groups including development of itineraries and experiences for each.
  • Assist with development of training videos for travel advisors and international tour operators.
  • Assist with creating sales support materials as assigned by group sales department.
  • Assist with developing list of potential clients thru Mint+ software for sales managers to prospect.
  • Assist with creation of sales support materials as assigned by group sales department.
  • Assist with development of locally made, culinary and historical point of interest content including an itinerary.
  • Assist in planning and staffing of trade shows or events.
  • Provide administrative support to management when required.
  • Assist in planning and hosting group site inspections, familiarization tours and events.
  • Willingness to learn on the job and share experiences with other team members.
  • Other duties as assigned as deemed necessary to support the Group Sales team or other departments.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program or a recent college graduate from an accredited college university studying sales, marketing, communications or tourism.
  • Strong work ethic and desire to learn.
  • Proficient knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite, including but not limited to Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Data entry and computer skills are critical.
  • Attendance and Dependability: The employee can be depended on to report to work at the scheduled time and is seldom absent from work. Employee can be depended upon to complete work in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious, about assignments.
  • Relationships with Others: The employee works effectively and relates well with others, including superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Chamber. The employee exhibits a professional manner in dealing with others and works, to maintain constructive working relationships.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT

  • Frequent periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer using eye-hand coordination.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

INTERSHIP WORK SCHEDULE

  • The position will begin after the end of the Spring semester and last through the summer and end at an agreed upon date before the beginning of fall semester.
  • This position will last no longer than 12 weeks.
  • Work scheduled is flexible but anticipate approximately 30 hours per week. Schedule needs to be reviewed and approved before each week begins.
  • Work is to be performed within the Chamber’s normal business hours of 8:30am to 5pm Monday through Friday.
