SUMMARY OF CONSULTANT CONTRACTOR

The Destination Stewardship Consultant will be responsible for leading initiatives related to the Myrtle Beach area’s destination stewardship plan. Work involves implementing the goals of the plan, leading initiatives, and projects to support the Grand Strand’s growth, accessibility, as well as economic and environmental sustainability. The individual will also work with the team to foster a greater sense of pride in the community and develop appreciation for tourism by improving resident education and engagement.

PRIMARY CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS

  • Oversee the implementation of the strategies outlined in the destination stewardship plan.
  • Collaborate with community partners and residents, industry stakeholders, strategic partners, and other related businesses to facilitate ongoing destination development in line with the destination stewardship plan.
  • Develop and lead programs and efforts to educate visitors and attract those interested in stewardship of the destination and contributing to community-building efforts.
  • Develop and lead programs and efforts to increase accessibility at businesses, experiences, services, and beaches to enhance the reputation as one of the most welcoming, accessible, and inclusive places in the United States.
  • Advocate for sustainability initiatives that preserve the vitality of the beaches and development for our resident and visitor needs now and into the future.
  • Research, plan, and develop a comprehensive visitor education program.
  • Identify and recommend community-focused partner support opportunities; proactively develop relationships with various municipality and community groups, associations, and non-profits that include or impact tourism partners.
  • Assist in the development of training programs for frontline staff to welcome and engage people of all cultures, perspectives, and abilities.
  • Develop experiential engagement and training programs for residents and industry partners to increase knowledge and awareness of local tourism assets and experiences.
  • Assist in efforts to connect visitors with area non-profit organizations to support their work and “voluntourism” opportunities.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and promotion of a central information hub and resource for visitors, businesses, and residents.
  • Any other special projects during the contract term as needed to align and meet the goals and objectives of our destination stewardship plan.

CRITICAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree with an accredited college university in business administration, hospitality, marketing, communications or a related field and previous consultative experience with a Destination Marketing Organization (DMO) or Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) or Chamber of Commerce (CoC) or relevant customer/visitor service management capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and consultative experience.
  • Working knowledge of the community throughout the Grand Strand area.
  • Ability to develop and implement new projects independently based on strategic goals of a proven plan.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external partners and stakeholders to build consensus and execute programs that align with plan goals.
  • Excellent project management skills with the ability to handle multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross functional teams.
  • Detail-oriented mindset with a focus on quality and accuracy and a progressive consultative approach.
  • Excellent interpersonal, customer service, organization, planning and problem-solving skills.

  • Dependability: Contractor can be depended on to complete work and services in a timely, accurate, and thorough manner and is conscientious about projects. Contractor is available to work and collaborate with the team during normal working hours and outside of working hours, depending on the needs and projects to meet the goals and objectives of the destination stewardship plan.
  • Relationships with Others: Contractor works effectively and relates well with others, including CVB and Chamber staff, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the organization. Contractor exhibits a positive and professional manner in dealing with others and works to maintain constructive working relationships.
